Looking for something different to read? A story set in a different time and place? Tomorrow is the release of the debut novel by Cindy Pon. Silver Phoenix: Beyond the Kingdom of Xia is a YA release but the premise and the location are what grabbed my attention. I'm not a big reader of YA but my daughter Abby is and Silver Phoenix will definitely make it's way to our home.
From the author's website:
on the day of her first betrothal meeting--and rejection--ai ling discovers a power welling deep within her. she can reach into other people’s spirits, hear their thoughts, see their dreams…and that’s just the beginning.
ai ling has been marked by the immortals; her destiny lies in the emperor’s palace, where a terrible evil has lived, stealing souls, for centuries. she must conquer this enemy and rescue her captive father, while mythical demons track her every step. and then she meets chen yong, a young man with a quest of his own, whose fate is intertwined with hers. here is a heart-stopping, breathtaking tale for fans of action, fantasy, and romance--of anything with the making of legend.
If the blurb and beautiful cover don't pull you in maybe the trailer will ~

ReplyDeleteOhhhh, thank you so much Leslie for bringing this book to my attention!! It has a beautiful cover and the book trailer was great!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to give it a try. I don't know how much I'll be enjoying it - seeing as I've read a lot of kung fu stories... plus, this is going to be weird in English... but I think it's worth a try :)
So again, thanks :)
Hi Cindy ~ I was thrilled to see something different for the YA readers. Love the cover, premise and the trailer. Thanks for letting me know about the contest - I'll be sure to stop by. :)
ReplyDeleteNath ~ Isn't the cover beautiful? I'm not sure why you think it will be weird in English. I'm showing my ignorance but do you usually read in French? ^_^
LOL, Leslie :) So here how it went: when I was younger, I used to read in French (cos I went to school in French). Then, during high school, there was a period where all I read was kung fu stories and those, I read in vietnamese. Nowadays, I read mostly romance in English...
ReplyDeleteIt's just, there's a lot of words that exist in Asian languages that don't really have an equivalent in Enligh or French. That's why I'm a bit worried that it will feel weird :P
