Changes and catching up...

I hope the first thing you notice is the new header. If you don't see a new header please drop me an email. I've checked it on IE and Firefox and it comes up. So, *fingers crossed* I hope it works for everyone. I've been in the mood for a change but couldn't decide what exactly I wanted, I just knew I wanted something different. :)

A Big THANK YOU for all the positive thoughts about my mom and her surgery. I can't begin to tell you how much those kind words meant to me and to my mom. She is doing great and is well on the way to a full recovery. She went to the surgeon for a follow up and he's very happy with her progress. She's getting around and even driving herself to the bank and to church.

I've stopped going to mom's house everyday - now I'm just going by a few times a week. But while I was there everyday Mom taught me to play dominoes. Her and Auntie Fran play a lot and I've never played so I thought it was time to learn. They play a game called "chicken foot" and it's not as easy as it looks. I did win a quite a few times. Mom chalked my wins up to her "recovering" and not being at 100%. LOL I also found out she does some name calling when I would play something she didn't like. She's feisty for 82. :)

And I started reading a new UF series. It's Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros series. It's very good - I'm already on the fourth book. I've read some reviewers comparing it to Supernatural and I can see some similarities. I used to watch Supernatural but stopped after the 2nd season - not sure why. But whether you like Supernatural or not I would recommend this series.

The two pics below are from Rob Thurman's website and are based on the first book Nightlife. They are done by Japanese artist Kazusa. I think they're a wonderful rendition of the characters of Cal and his brother Niko.

  1. I love the new header! I'm in Safari right now, and it shows up great. So cute about playing dominoes with your mom. That actually sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon.

So, you must be really enjoying that Thurman series if you're on book 4. I never hear about it.

  2. Oh, I should say, not only does it show up great, but I really do like it. I can't believe I didn't include that bit. It feels like it goes more with your blog name, and it makes the page look really clean.

  3. Thanks CJ! The first time I saw the header picture I loved it and knew it was the one I wanted.

Dominoes takes about 2 hours and it's surprisingly fun. :)

With the Thurman series I had planned on reading 2, then something else before reading the next 2 but I can't seem to stop myself. Very addictive.

  5. Thanks nath. :)

So you tried Thurman? What didn't you like about it? I have some problems but for me the good out weighs the not-so-good. ;)

  6. I also use Safari, but I cruised over to Firefox (Mac version) and it looks great!

Oh, LOVE the Thurman. I think the latest Cal Leandros book is the best yet. I can't wait for her new series that's coming out in September. And of course, those images of Cal and Niko are awesome. Did you see the b & w drawings of the characters at the Kazusa site?

  7. Thanks Nicola :) I was lucky to find it.

Renee ~ Thanks for checking the Mac. I know there are Mac users out there – I just not one of them. Too $$. :)

I’m about mid-way through Deathwish and totally hooked on this series. And I like having Niko’s POV in this one. I’ll be getting Trick of the Light in a couple months. It sounds good and I’m interested to see how she writes a female lead.

Thanks for the heads up on Kazusa site. I’ll check it out.

  8. I'm thinking I just wasn't in the mood for it. I had difficulty just getting in the storyline... but yeah, after your review, it is definitively worth a second try... Wonder where it is... and if I have the second book, LOL :P

  9. nath ~ wonder where it is? Didn't you just clean your room? LOL

I shouldn't talk - I was just straightening my room and found a box of books I had completely forgotten about. I need more shelves! :)

  10. Hmmm, well yes, I just cleaned my room... but I didn't go through all my books. Just dumped the ones laying around anywhere I could find some place.

    I just went through one or two boxes and I can't find it. I can't remember seeing it when I shelved the books or made the list of books to give away for the Canadian romance bloggers meet... and it's not in the box where I keep the unread fantasy/urban fantasy books... so I'm coming to the conclusions that I didn't buy it!! LOL :) I remember last year, I was looking for fantasy/urban fantasy and was debating whether I should buy Nightlife or not... I read the ending and probably put it back on the shelves... Now, I need another trip to the bookstore ^_^;

  11. Sure nath, like you need a reason for a trip to the bookstore. LOL

  12. LOL sure I do and this time, I'm blaming it on you. You really put me in the mood of reading it!! :P
