Let Them Eat Cake...

As you can see on the sidebar, one of the books I'm reading is Happy Ever After, the final installment of the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts. As with the previous three books, many of the scenes take place at the Brown estate, home of Vows, the wedding business the four heroines own.

I was reading along as the flowers, the decor and the cakes, those wonderful, deliciously scrumptious cakes, were being described and I found myself wishing the book came with pictures. Seriously, wouldn't that be the ultimate? Pictures of Emma's gorgeous flower arrangements throughout the magnificent Brown estate. And Laurel's delectable creations. . . Pardon me while I wipe the drool from my chin. :)

But sadly, none of the books come with pictures. So off to Google I went and found an abundance of wedding cakes. I decided to concentrate on the cakes, probably because I was hungry at the time. :)

My goodness, they have certainly come a long way from the traditional white, three tiered cakes of old. There are still the beautiful traditional white wedding cakes with some special added touches. But there are also some amazingly creative cakes that took my breath away. With so many bakeries to choose from I decided to go with a hometown bakery. All of the pictures below are from Piece of Cake Desserts. My niece is getting married next November & I really hope she gets her cake here!

I'm posting just a few 12 of my favorites, believe me it was hard to choose! You can see a whole bunch more at Piece of Cake Desserts website.

Simply Elegant

Love the color and the details on this one.

Love the black & white with the punch of color on top.

Flowers ~

More flowers ~

Another one with beautiful flowers. The initial(s) on top seems to be popular.

The next three blew me away. Are these common at weddings? I would be tempted to pick one of these. So unique.

And for the whimsical couple ~

If you were a client of Vows, which would you pick? One of these or maybe another one from the site? Or maybe you've got your very own creation in your head just waiting to be baked!

  1. Oh yum! Those cakes are gorgeous! I love the inverted style, it's just so... gravitationally challenged, lol!

  2. Hils ~ The inverted style - I keep staring, trying to figure out how you would cut it. LOL

  3. These are waaaayyy too beautiful. How could someone choose only one ;)

  4. Maija ~ I know I couldn't choose one. You could have one for the engagement party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, Wedding, and post honeymoon party. That's five! LOL

  5. Great post, Leslie :P

    My mom used to make wedding cakes, but the old-style ones with the bridges and fountains :P

    I just found out that I'm going to be very picky when it comes to selecting my wedding cake ^_^; I want slick, but not just fondant slick. Not a fan of just the trail of flowers. It's a wedding, so don't like too funky... see, picky LOL.

    There are some nice ones, but I've gone through the pics and I haven't seen one where I went: ohhhh ^_^;

    As for cutting the invert one, I guess you'd have to cut from the top to bottom :P the cutting shouldn't be too hard, it's the scooping.

  6. Nath ~ How cool that your mom used to make wedding cakes. My mom used to make my bridesmaid dresses(2). LOL

    I think you should be picky! Picky is good when it comes to your wedding. :)

  7. WOW! What a stunning array of wedding cakes! {And what a neat idea to post in light of the release of the last Bride Quartet book! So creative, Leslie!}

    All of those cakes are so beautiful. The one with the giraffes and their footprints up the cake is adorable, but I don't think I would choose it unless I was getting married to a zookeeper or while on Safari. ;)

    I think if I were to choose one for the me of today... I would pick the lopsided one--second from the bottom. What does that say about me? LOL!

    The me of 18 years ago as an almost bride-to-be would have probably picked the first one that you titled Simply Elegant. My how things change... LOLOL!

  8. Christine ~The giraffe cake is adorable. I can totally see it for 2 zookeepers. :)

    Those lopsided ones are popular. I saw quite a few on the site. I like that red one too. Very pretty.
