Eat, Pray, Love Movie

After seeing the movie trailer, I want to read the book. Anyone read the book? I know it was real popular, might still be on the NY Times list. I actually have it around here somewhere...

The trailer looks really good. Some might say it's a chick flick but I think it's more. Similar to Under the Tuscan Sun, which I really liked and yeah that's no doubt considered a chick flick too. Even though the main character is female, I still think there are things that a man could relate to. Plus guys still think Julia Roberts is hot right?

Much of what she said resonated with me. I couldn't take off for a year but there are definitely times when I'd like to take a road trip and just focus on me, if only for a few days. I think I will take off to the movies this summer and see this. Maybe even drag dh along. :)

  1. I've read the book, and I quite liked it. Gilbert is very funny, and she clearly has a passionate love of travel - which translates through her writing. I really liked the parts where she was in Italy, especially because her whole motivation for going to Rome was to learn the language - because she thinks it sounds beautiful. I loved the impulsiveness.
The book kind of lost me when she went o India and Indonesia to find her 'spirituality'. She stays in a temple with other (yuppie) Westerners and she has to meditate, have a cone of silence etc... I'm really not into all that sort of stuff, and I found all that to be quite pretentious and boring.

The romance in the book is quite subtle (and comes toward the end of the book). But it looks like the movie is making the romance a focal point, which could work really well.

  2. It feels a lot like a chick-lit book :D Not sure it's for me though... I like either action movies or comedies :D but I'll look forward to see what you think of it, Leslie :D

  3. Danielle ~ Thanks for the info on the book. That impulsiveness is what appeals to me. The cone of silence, not so much. LOL

This could be a case of the movie being better than the book. :)

nath ~ yeah, it's chick lit. LOL I'm not even sure if I've read chick lit before. I'm willing to give this one a try. :D

  4. I haven't read the book, but I do have a copy laying around. A friend of mine loaned it to me ... oh gosh... could it be two years ago? Easily! She said take your time... I don't know if she realized I'd take THIS long. LOL! We should read it together, Leslie. Let me know when you're going to pick it up! :D

  5. Christine ~ when someone tells you to take your time, you do! LOL

I have no idea when I'll get a chance to read it but I would like to before the movie comes out. So it will probably be this summer. I'll be sure to let you know. :)
